Compilation and soundtrack (D) reviews

Dangerous Women

This is a compilation of all-female musicians, including Vixen, Babes in Toyland, The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black (performing Alaska, which I simply loved---this is one of the better tracks in the album), Cycle Sluts from Hell (complementing Deep Purple with Speed Queen), and The Great Kat (who arranges the best track---Beethoven Mosh (his 5th symphony in C minor, the speed metal version). The compilation, released by Sony Music, along with others, is one in a series called Risky Business. So far, the two I own have turned out to have excellent samplers.

DGC Rarities Vol. 1

This is a cool compilation of tunes that are more self-indulgent than the average junk floating around. It includes Pay to Play by Nirvana, Bogusflow by Beck, Compilation Blues by Sonic Youth, Grunge Couple by That Dog, and Stove/Smother by Sloan. The latter three tunes are my favourite!

Dazed and Confused

This is one of the most stupid movies I saw, but the soundtrack is a classic (good to get on tape and listen to it on the walkman riding the metro). It includes hits by groups like Kiss (Rock 'n Roll all Night), Black Sabbath (Paranoid), and Deep Purple (Highway Star).
