Cranberries

Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we?

The music on the Cranberries first full-length release is more lush and fuller than the newer stuff. Even though it doesn't showcase Dolores O'Riordan's voice as well as the latest No Need to Argue does, there's a lot of hint as to how powerful and versatile it is. Yes, the production is slick and aimed at the MTV masses, but the music in this album affects me greatly. There is definite passion in O'Riordan's voice, and this is what drives the whole album. I can't help but marvel at O'Riordan's ability to use her voice freely without inhibition (I'm talking about the non-lyrical stuff she sings/hums). While there is a resemblance to Sinead O'Connor in terms of delivery and some the inflections, the extra vocal gymnastics make up for any similarities. I like some of the keyboard work better than the acoustic guitar stuff.
