It is no surprise that the Flaming Lips are riding high on top of the current "alternative" wave, especially given that their Bad Days is present in the Batman Forever soundtrack and attracting attention. They've been around for a while now, and given that there seems to be a marketing push towards somewhat obscure "underground" bands, they've been thrust into the limelight. I think they're quite deserving of it. Back when they began (1986 or so), I doubt if the noise-tinged college rock sound they put out would've gone well with the pop fans. The songs in this release are fairly catchy, and the guitar work shines once in a while. My favourite tracks are Turn it On and Slow Never Action (the latter has some cool guitar-indulgence).
