Porch

Porch

After hearing this release, I can't help wondering what it would be like to have the current incarnation of Primus mixed with the aggressive guitar playing seen on this album. Todd Huth, the guitarist here (and the original Primus and current Sausage guitarist) does a lot more with his instrument than on Sausage's Riddles are Abound Tonight. It is a major influence on what the album sounds like: in-your-face hard-hitting rock with noisy guitars, decent drumming (by (David Ayer, formerly of Samiam), and solid bass lines (Chris Frey). I think that Huth's blaring guitar style would complement and supplement LaLonde's quite well, probably resulting in a Primus album that borders on thrash (one can dream, can't they?). The Porch album is indeed close to thrash metal, but the vocal style is repetitive and the guitar overpowers everything else. If you didn't like Huth's guitar work on Sausage's Riddles, and you want to still give him a chance, be sure to check this out if you're into the thrash metal-type noisy feedback-based guitaring.
