There is a great amount of mythical influence on this work, based on the folklore, superstitions, and ancestral customs of Scotland. But it is the music that I find most interesting. There is obviously a Scottish/Celtic influence in the sound of Proscriptor, but it is the noisy aspects of the music that stands out. The music sounds like a cross between the Pogues, John Cage, and Throbbing Gristle. This release has quite a diverse range of musics in it, and it is quite different from many of the Cold Meat Industry releases which focus on dark atmospheric music. The music itself is quite uplifting, but as I mentioned, also highly noise oriented. It certainly is quite an unique sound and there are not many bands that come close to this sort of a sound. That alone makes The Venus Bellona an album worthy of attention.
